The Value Balancing Alliance (VBA) is an association of multinational companies, consulted by Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC, and supported by organizations such as the OECD, World Bank, the EU, and a widespread multi-stakeholder network with our headquarters in Frankfurt am Main.
Well-known companies such as Anglo American, BASF, BMW, Bosch, Deutsche Bank, DPDHL, Holcim, Kering, Michelin, Mitsubishi Chemical, Novartis, Otto, Porsche, Sana Kliniken, SAP, Schaeffler, Shinhan Financial Group, SK, and ZF have come together to create a standardized way to measure and compare the value of contributions made by businesses to society, the economy and the environment – a metric that is currently neither reflected in a company's accounting systems, nor in existing ESG reporting methods.
Our aim is to make the world a better place by enabling corporate decision-makers to arrive at more conscious and sounder decisions for people and the environment by quantifying and valuing non-financial impacts, while leading their businesses competitively into the future. This means comprehensively rethinking the way we achieve and measure success.
The EU commissioned us to develop a Green Accounting Standard as part of the EU Green Deal and has nominated us to the Platform Sustainable Finance (PSF) for the EU Taxonomy – a first step towards anchoring our novel approach to impact valuation in the broader economy. Our pioneering work aims to establish a uniform, internationally recognised valuation methodology for calculating reliable sustainability metrics. This non-financial impact measurement and valuation (IMV) method would be integrated into corporate accounting systems, supplementing, and further developing existing ESG reporting methods. Companies confirm the relevance of our approach, as new members are joining our ever-growing Alliance every month.
